Think of eGFR as your kidneys’ efficiency rating. Urinary albumin is an early leak detector. If protein is spilling into your urine, your filters might be compromised.

Among participants with normal kidney function, about 14% suffered from severe periodontitis.
Among those with moderately reduced kidney function? That number jumped to 36%.
